Rare Pilot Cutters at Swansea Museums’ Floating Exhibits Pontoon

Swansea Museums Floating Exhibits Pontoon in Swansea Marina will be the scene of an exciting gathering of rare Pilot Cutters later this week, as the Bristol Channel Pilot Cutters Association assemble four of these historic vessels, as part of a series of races planned for Swansea Bay.

The vessels – including Mascotte, Cornubia, Peggy and Margarite T – will be on public display between 6.00 and 7.00 pm on Thursday May 5th, providing a unique opportunity to see these historic sailing ships at close hand, and discover more about them from their racing Skippers and crews. Swansea Museum itself is the proud owner of such a Cutter, the “Olga” currently being worked on at a Gloucester Shipyard and dry dock, ensuring she has many more years of sailing, and able to continue playing her part in the heritage of these vessels.

The Museum welcomes you to come along and experience these great historic wooden sailing ships and indeed to return again to see “Olga” when she sails back into the Marina, her restoration completed.
