Saturday is Egypt Day!

October 17, 2006

Swansea Museum has had a great response to the Egyptian exhibition Beasts of the Nile, that continues until November 19th, and on Saturday October 21st there will be a special “Egyptian Day”, with fun for all the family, from a range of experiences specially put on by the museum and visiting experts.

You can practice writing your name in hieroglyphics, as the ancient Egyptians did, or make a model of a Scarab, the beetle that they worshipped as a representation of the Sun-God.
There will also be caligraphy writing, with its stylised script, so you can see your name in impressive characters !

African drummers will also be beating out their amazing rhythyms, so you can try your hand – or even both ! – at making this special kind of music, whilst there will be a team of Belly Dancers showing you how to start your gyrations in impressive style !

In the morning there is a special Henna tattoo session, with intricate designs possible without being stuck with them for life, as the images gently fade in time.
Added to all this will be special “Egyptian Quiz”, with a prize on offer to the most successful, and all the experiences are free, as is admission to Swansea Museum itself.

Further details are available from Swansea Museum Reception on 01792 – 653763.
